About DistrictRaigarh district is a district in the state of Chhattisgarh, India. Raigarh is the district headquarters. The total area of the district is 4059.90 square kilometers. This district was formed by combining the princely states of Raigarh, Shakti, Sarangarh, Udaipur, and Jashpur. Jashpur is now a separate district. Shakti is no longer part of Raigarh district. Sarangarh also became a separate district in 2021. Raigarh district is bordered by Surguja and Jashpur districts to the north, Sarangarh district to the south, the state of Odisha to the east, and Shakti and Korba districts to the west. Raigarh district is lush green. According to 2010-2011 data, the forest area of the district is 109687 hectares. The Mahanadi River and its tributaries flow through this district. The southern part of the district is entirely a plain area. The majority of the district’s population lives in villages. The Birhor are a unique tribal group in this district, residing in the Dharamjaigarh area. Gond, Kanwar, and Oraon are among the other major tribal groups. Raigarh district has 5 subdivisions, 10 tehsils, 549 Gram Panchayats, and 951 revenue villages. The languages spoken in the district are Chhattisgarhi, Odia, and Hindi. There is a significant population of Bengali, Telugu, Marathi, Bihari, and other communities. Due to railway and industrial development, there is a good representation of people from all over India. According to the 2011 census records, the population of Raigarh was 1,112,982, with 560,032 males and 552,950 females. As per the provisional data released by the Census of India 2011, the population density of Raigarh district in 2011 was 211 persons per square kilometer. It is rapidly growing as an industrial district of Chhattisgarh. One of India’s oldest jute mills, the Mohan Jute Mill, is located here; it was the only jute mill in Chhattisgarh state and undivided Madhya Pradesh. Raigarh district is rich in major minerals such as coal. Several major and minor minerals are also found here, including limestone, quartz, fireclay, dolomite, and quartzite. Raigarh is one of the leading steel producers in the country. Numerous steel and power plants are located here, such as JSPL, MSP, Monnet Steel, and many other small and medium-sized plants. This can be gauged from the fact that Raigarh itself consumes approximately 20,000 tons of coal daily. |
